LOCAL SNOWMOBILING RIDING AREAS

Allan Creek

The Allan Creek trail is the first to open each season in the Valemount area and its lakes, bowls, meadows, and steep hills make it a favorite. With elevation ranges from 5500 ft.–7500 ft., this is a very large area and only the experienced should travel to the far ends.

Family riding can be found around the cabin and lakes as soon as you enter the alpine. Please sign in and out in the cabin record book.

The trailhead parking lot is 35 km south of Valemount, just off the west side of Highway 5.

The 8 km trail from the parking lot to the cabin is regularly groomed with a fast elevation gain that gets you up top in a hurry. It can be done by children, but expect some steeper sections.

Cabin GPS location: N 52.577228 lat W 119.160908 long.

Clemina Creek

This area is very accessible to all levels of riding ability and all levels can find suitable terrain. In times of poor weather and visibility, this area can produce some excellent tree riding. The trails to the alpine of Clemina Creek are wide and easy to ride.

Elevation ranges from 5500–8000′

A regularly groomed 17 km trail will take you to the Clemina Cabin and another 4 km trail will take you to the Goat Ridge Bowl alpine areas. The first access trail to the alpine is left up Morning Glory at 15 km and the 19 km mark behind the cabin will take you up the Wind tunnel trail. Proceeding to the 21 km mark will the valley trail swings left to access the Goat Ridge system of bowls.

The large parking lot and trail-head are located east of Highway 5, 30  km south of Valemount.

Chappell Creek

Valemount’s prized jewel with elevation ranged from 6,000 ft.–8,000 ft., as this area can hold some of the best snow in the valley. A scenic,
26 km trail leads you up to some of the most abundant snow in the Valemount area.

The 26km, scenic Chappell Creek Trail is easy to ride under normal, groomed conditions. The trail is located 58km south of Valemount to the west side of Hwy 5. The trail system partially uses the FSR roads, fire and skid trails to gain access to alpine areas at the headwaters of Chappell Creek.

This is a VARDA managed area, although there is no cabin or outhouse facilities located in the alpine. This is a long trail in and we do our best to keep it maintained to standard, although due to high grooming costs, the area only gets groomed once a week and can get a bit rough.

wESTRIDGE FAMILY LOOP

The Westridge Family Loop is a low-elevation, 22-km snowmobiling loop with lovely views of the valley and town of Valemount, providing an excellent place for first timers to hone their snowmobiling skills before heading into the steeper mountains. A warming hut is located at the far end of the recreation area to fight off winter chills.

Directly accessible form the West side of the town of Valemount, the Lower Westridge area provides an ideal area for snowmobile touring for the whole family.  Head south of the Best Western Hotel and take your first right off of the highway.  Stay on the main FSR for a couple KMs keeping right at the fork at the top of the hill.  You will see the main parking lot on your right hand side.

The larger Westridge Area also offers some extremely technical and advanced mountain riding. It is accessed from the lower loop via an undeveloped trail that is extremely technical and not recommended for anything but advanced riders. Once into the alpine, riders are greeted by enormous bowls, spectacular scenery and incredible snowfall.

Mountain Biking

Valemount is home to some of the best mountain bike trails in BC and is quickly becoming the favorite destination of many riders. The trails are the pride and joy of many in the Valemount community. As cliché as it sounds, the trail system has a bit of something for everyone. The original stoke began due to our abundance of downhill flow style options, although over the last few years we have added some exceptional cross country and all mountain options, as well as some more technical alternatives.

If you haven’t visited our trail system yet, you are missing out on something special!

The main staging area is located minutes from the town center of Valemount and can easily be accessed via a quick pedal up from town or via the hillside drive access road.  To get to the trail systems main staging area, head down 5th avenue (main drag) and take a hard right after the train tracks and then your first left.  About 1km up the road, you will find the main staging area for the bike park.  There are two large parking lots with an outhouse and picnic site.  Please respect that there is no overnight camping welcome in the staging areas.
